 Toni Mua is a proud native Detroiter, born and raised in Michigan. She is running for State Representative in the recently redrawn District 9, having previously run in District 10—a historic campaign that marked her as the first trans woman to run for state legislature in Michigan. Her campaign was monumental not only for representation but for how it actively included the community, giving residents a seat at the table and a voice in shaping the campaign’s priorities.

The daughter of an immigrant nurse and an automotive plant worker father, Toni embodies the values of hard work, perseverance, and public service. From a young age, she was deeply engaged in civic life—volunteering alongside her grandparents with organizations such as The Parade Company, Michigan State Fair, and the Detroit Branch NAACP—which laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to community empowerment.

Toni holds an Associate’s degree in Business Management, dual Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Management, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. While completing her education, she launched a professional beauty services business that grew into a nationally recognized enterprise serving public figures, athletes, and celebrities.

In 2018, Toni transitioned to philanthropy and nonprofit leadership. In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she founded Pricewoods, a nonprofit addressing poverty, hunger, and social injustice. Through Pricewoods, she provided pro bono support to more than 250 small businesses nationwide, assisting them in navigating pandemic relief programs like PPP and EIDL.

Toni’s commitment to justice deepened in 2022 when Roe v. Wade was overturned. She worked extensively with Planned Parenthood and in the broader reproductive justice space during the midterms, mobilizing voters and advocating for policies that protect reproductive rights and health access.

Today, Toni is running to restore community trust, strengthen infrastructure, expand educational opportunities, and champion equality for women and the LGBTQ+ community. She is dedicated to creating a Mic
